Allysa Barnaba (b. 2001) is a multidisciplinary American artist. Her work explores themes of the female body, personal physical relationships, and food. Barnaba lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She holds a MA in Art History from the University College Dublin in Ireland as well as a BA from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Allysa Barnaba utilizes iconography of the female body bold aesthetics to explore her relationship with her body, disordered eating, and physical and emotional engagement with men in a digital age. Barnaba uses abject and analog aesthetics to consider how she exists within a contemporary society as a woman, not only through her history with anorexia nervosa but also with her self destructive relationship with men. Barnaba seeks to consider how we consider mental illness within personal relationships, societal ramifications upon the female body, and line between her own place as a feminist art historian as well as a straight women dating in the modern age.
